Who is Living Intent?
Our business began with one mission – empowering affordable living.
Our Story
Living Intent Yurt Company began eight years ago in the woods of Northern Maine, fueled by our founder Caleb’s love for woodworking and alternative housing. What started as a backyard project quickly grew into building yurts for friends, neighbors, and music festivals. With his loyal companion Makita riding shotgun, Caleb packed his tools into a worn van and made his way to Grass Valley, California.
After acquiring 10 acres off-grid, Caleb got to work building out his homestead where he lives year-round in a 24' Rigid Wall Round House with detached kitchen and outdoor amenities. Living close to the land—the wins, the challenges, and the day-to-day realities of off-grid life—gives him firsthand insight that shapes every design, guiding choices for comfort, durability, and performance in any climate.
Our Living Intent Team is small but mighty, bringing projects to life across the country—from multi-unit installations for a Waldorf school in Santa Barbara, to a waterfront retreat in Kauai, to remote off-grid shelter in Alaska. By combining advanced machinery with skilled craftsmanship, Living Intent creates precise, high-quality yurts built to last.
We’re constantly expanding our offerings and learning from every build. We deeply value our connections to fellow round house enthusiasts and look forward to making an impact with this inspiring community. Cheers to what's to come!
